American Airlines Cargo delivers humanitarian supplies to Haiti

American Airlines Cargo is contributing to transporting life-saving medical and sanitary supplies to Haiti as the country battles a devastating cholera outbreak.

American is transporting more than 55 tons of medical supplies from Europe to Miami, where they will be staged for delivery to Haiti in collaboration with Airlink, a nonprofit humanitarian organization devoted to sending critical aid to communities in need.

“We’re proud to partner with Airlink to make a positive impact on the world,” said Greg Schwendinger, President of American Airlines Cargo. “At American, our mission is to care for people on life’s journey, and we are honored to play a role in transporting critical goods to the people and places they are needed most.”

Since the outbreak began in October 2022, cholera, has infected thousands of people in Haiti. The illness has exacerbated a humanitarian catastrophe created by civil instability in the Caribbean island, making access to supplies difficult for health care professionals. American will be a critical connection in the movement of personal protective equipment (PPE), clean water filters, nebulizers, blood tubes, and other sterile products to aid in the battle against the disaster.

American initially collaborated with Airlink in March 2022 to supply humanitarian assistance to those affected by the Ukraine crisis. It has delivered roughly 90 tons of life-saving goods to the region since then. American assisted in the transportation of merchandise and relief people for 47 different non-profit groups, therefore assisting humanitarian operations in 21 different nations.

Through American’s Miles for Social Good initiative, American and its customers gave 85 million AAdvantage® miles to Airlink last year. So far, the miles have enabled 351 aid workers to travel throughout the world to promote social activities.
